Baby Bags Found to Have Lead in Them

Posted on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at 9:03 am

The Illinois Attorney General has issued a call for various baby bags and their changing pads to be removed from the shelves of stores due to unsafe levels of lead in them.

Some of the baby bags were found to have lead levels nine times the acceptable maximum amount. The lowest was two times the accepted level. The Attorney General’s office says that United States companies know there should not be lead in child products, even if they are manufactured overseas.

The products were manufactured in China and imported with no problems because there is not a federal rule concerning lead in baby products. Illinois has one of the strongest anti-lead poisoning laws in the country.

The investigation began when an employee received a baby bag as a gift and asked to have it tested for lead, as a joke. The results were not funny.

FAA to Improve Black Boxes

Posted on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

The FAA has announced plans to improve the black boxes found in airplanes.

Black boxes, which record the happenings of an airplane, provide invaluable information to investigators if a crash should occur.

The FAA has mandated that the black boxes record the last 2 hours of cockpit conversation rather than the current 15 to 30 minute requirement.  Digital flight data recorders, which record speed, altitude and other critical information, must now also record more data more frequently.

The devices, contrary to their names, are orange to make them easier to find in a crash site.

Car Seats Recalled

Posted on Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 at 5:03 am

Combi USA has recalled 67,000 baby car seats. They are being recalled because federal tests suggest that the base can separate from the seat in front-end collisions.

Combi USA is offering free retro-fit kits for people that contact the company. This could take 6 to 8 weeks and, until then, the company recommends that people use the car seats without the base. This is safe as the seats are designed for use with or without the base.

The firm said it has received no reports of injuries to date regarding the Centre, Centre ARB and Shuttle Infant Restraints but is still issuing the recall. They want to maintain the public’s trust in the company.

If your baby has been injured in an accident due to a defective safety seat, contact the Lake Geneva defective product lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® at 1-800-275-1729 to discuss your case and to determine your legal options.
