Once police and EMS personnel were able to remove the girl from the pool, she was rushed to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

A statement by the Coroner’s Office estimates that the 14-year old was underwater for roughly 20 minutes before she was removed from the water. While she was resuscitated, she suffered severe anoxic brain injury.

Pool Company Charged with the Death of a Child

The president of a pool company located in Connecticut has been charged with second-degree manslaughter due to teh death of a 6 year old boy in 2007. The boy died in a pool built by the president’s company.

The boy died when his arm was caught in a pool drain that was connected to a pump that continued to pump even when there was something blocking the drain. Greenwich Police have said that the president of the company “recklessly caused the death” of the victim when he failed to have his company install mandated safety devices. The company built the pool for the boy’s family. Police maintain that safety devices would have prevented the boy’s death.

According to the lawyers for the defendant, it is the first time a pool company has been charged criminally with death due to some flaw in construction.
