Woman Hospitalized with Injuries due to Falling Elevator

Posted on Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 at 2:08 am

A 22 year old New York woman was hospitalized with head injuries after the elevator she was in fell from the 6th floor to the basement. The extent of her injuries is not known but she was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital.

The woman was in an elevator in Washington Heights visiting a friend when the elevator fell on her way out of the building. The incident has residents of the building outraged as just last month the elevator fell for the first time. That fall was from the first floor to the basement and hospitalized one of the building’s residents.

The building’s superintendent denies any knowledge of problems with the elevator. The Department of Buildings is investigating residents’ claims as well as the elevator.

Texas Officer Reprimanded for Traffic Stop and Comments

Posted on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 1:08 am

A Texas police officer was reprimanded after making insensitive comments and inadvertently causing the death of a beloved family pet.

The officer, a member of the San Marcos police force, stopped a couple for speeding when they were rushing their poodle Missy to the vet. The dog was very sick and died while going to the vet as a result of the 20-minute traffic stop.

In response to the couple’s explanation that they were speeding to get the dog emergency medical treatment, the officer reportedly quipped “Chill out, it’s just a dog. You can buy another one.” The entire stop, including dialogue, was caught on film by the officer’s DashCam.

Since the incident, the officer has been reprimanded by the San Marcos Police but that has not satisfied many people. There is now a petition going around for his removal.
