Police Make Arrest in Bizarre Accident

Posted on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 at 8:11 am

New York state police officers have made an arrest in a bizarre car accident involving a car, a tree, and a house.

The accident in question occurred when a driver was speeding. He then hit a tree with the car. This caused the car to flip. Once the car flipped, it hit a car that was nearby. The house was severely damaged when the car caught fire and then the fire spread to the house. The four human residents of the house managed to escape without injury. The family cat was not so fortunate.

Once the accident occurred, the driver then fled the scene of the accident. Fortunately for the homeowners, the police were able to track him down. The driver has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, and speeding.

It took police about a week to track down the driver.

End of Daylight Savings Triggers Car Accidents

Posted on Friday, November 7th, 2008 at 2:11 am

Every year, right after daylight savings ends, there is an increase in the number of car accidents that occur. This trend continues for the first few weeks after the end of daylight savings and then things go back to normal.

The theory behind this phenomenon is that people are unaccustomed to the roads getting dark at times when they used to be light. It is a sudden change to lose an entire hour of daylight during the evening commute. Most changes are much more subtle than daylight savings. The highest rate of car accidents occur at the start and the end of daylight savings.

In Oregon, rain and darkness led to an accident involving a gravel truck, a sedan, and a telephone pole. No one was hurt but the interesting picture of the telephone pole over the front of the sedan was enough for many.
