Tickets for Not Wearing Seat Belts
Posted on Monday, May 18th, 2009 at 6:36 am
Approximately 350 agencies across the state are beginning a campaign to enforce seat belt laws today. The campaign will last through the end of the month, in which time there will be more stringent ticketing for not wearing seat belts.
Infractions will receive tickets that range from $10 for adult to an $83 to $160 range for children. In 2008, over 1,200 citations were issued for seat belt infractions. This campaign will hopefully cut that number down and save lives.

Bicycle Injuries

As summer approaches, outdoor activities are on the rise. This means that, among other things, you will see more and more children riding their bikes around neighborhood streets.
Because these children are around, it is important to be on the lookout for them. Many fatal accidents that involve children on bicycles are caused by inattentive drivers who do not see them. Watching for children can help save lives and undue anguish.

Black Boxes Not Just for Airplanes Anymore
Posted on Thursday, May 7th, 2009 at 4:14 am
Black boxes like the ones used in airplanes are being tested for use in semi trucks. When an airplane crashes, the black box survives and helps authorities reconstruct the crash by giving them information about what occurred beforehand.
Now, Fox Valley Technical College is testing the technology that would allow similar black boxes to be used in semi trucks. The boxes will work in the same way, allowing police to better understand what occurred in semi accidents. It may also make semi drivers more cautious in knowing that their actions are being recorded.
