Alcohol and Boating Crashes

Posted on Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 at 5:24 am

A study has shown that Wisconsin boating crashes that involve alcohol are on the decline. There have been 1,311 total boating accidents with 193 deaths in the state over the last 10 years with 20 deaths in 2008.

Of those 20 boating fatalities, 8 of them involved alcohol. That 40% of boating fatalities involving alcohol stacks up well to the 85% in four of the 10 years of the study. However, it is still far too high a percentage.
