The federal government announced Tuesday that the Food and Drug Administration and the Agriculture Department are adopting new standards for food safety that involve better coordination and communication between food related agencies.
The announcement follows three major food recalls. Earlier this year, peanut products were widely contaminated with salmonella, possibly causing 9 deaths. In the last month, Toll House cookie dough and JBS Swift Beef Co beef products were both recalled for an E coli outbreak.
