A Detroit man is being charged with second degree neglect of a vulnerable adult after his wife was found dead in bed festering in her own waste. Reports indicate that she died of morbid obesity, among other injuries.
The 400-pound woman suffered serious injuries, including a crushed pelvis, in a car accident last year. Her husband was appointed as her primary caretaker while she recovered. Unfortunately, it looks like he neglected his duties and now his wife is dead and their four children are motherless.
While the man faces his charges, the children are staying with another relative.
Losing a loved one in a way that is entirely preventable, such as callous neglect, can create an enormous emotional strain on a family. When life is lost from sheer neglectful misconduct, a wrongful death lawsuit may be a viable way to seek justice and recuperate funeral costs and other expenses.
