On Tuesday, October 29, an accident between an automobile and a female pedestrian left a 50-year-old woman battling serious injuries. The accident occurred on Hammond Avenue at the Blatnik Bridge.
According to a report released by Superior Deputy Chief Nicholas Alexander, the woman is receiving medical care at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth in their intensive care unit after she was found by the police lying in the northbound lane of Hammond Avenue, unconscious but breathing. Her name is being withheld while confirming positive identification.
The driver, a man from Duluth, was released after failing to exhibit signs of impairment and sobriety. Initial breath tests also detected no alcohol. He stated that the pedestrian must have stepped out from the crosswalk, and he was not able to see her until she was right in front of his vehicle.
An investigation is currently underway.
