Madison man arrested after attempted sexual assault

Posted under Sexual Assault

A man who tried to sexually assault a woman was arrested by Madison Police on July 6th, Wednesday, at 2 a.m.

Marcus Thomas, 27, followed a  39-year-old woman from outside State St. bar, where he attempted the sexual assault. Authorities say the woman suffered serious head injuries after the attempt. She returned to State St. to try to get help after the attack and was taken to the hospital.

Police eventually caught up with Thomas near State and Gilman Streets. He resisted arrest and tried to punch an officer but missed. Thomas was charged with attempted first-degree sexual assault and resisting arrest.

Victims of sexual assaults who survive the ordeal often encounter some difficulties in receiving legal compensation.
