Four car pileup due to lost furniture in roadway

Posted under Uncategorized

According to the State Patrol, a driver who lost a load of furniture from the back of his truck Wednesday is responsible for two crashes and many hours of traffic delays along Highway 29.

Police have not yet found the truck and the driver responsible for the incident.

The State Patrol was made aware of the situation when several motorists as well as the Maratho County Sheriff’s Department called it in around 6:45 PM Wednesday. There were shards of wood and broken glass spread across the westbound lanes of Highway 29 near the Business Highway 51 exit.

A tractor-trailer as well as a passenger van both ran over mattresses left in the road and collided with one another. A mattress became stuck in the tractor-trailer’s drive shaft and it had to be towed from the scene.

A minivan following behind the van and tractor had to brake sharply to avoid crashing into them, which then led to a truck behind the minivan crashing into it.

Nobody was injured in the four car pileup.
