A dental clinic in New York, called Small Smiles, is being sued for administering dental treatment to patients without using anesthesia. The facility is sponsored by Medicaid and treats children of low-income families for free. The patients who receive dental treatment at the facility are usually between the ages of 1 and 7.
The lawsuit, which was filed by the families of the children, claims that the children were subjected to root canals and tooth extractions without being administered anesthesia. The lawsuit further states that the parents of the children were led to believe that anesthesia would be administered.
This is not the first lawsuit for the clinic. In 2010, it was sued for performing unneccessary dental procedures on young patients. The families who have filed the current lawsuit are seeking an unspecified amount in compensatory and punitive damages.
