Two construction companies based in Wisconsin were recently cited with safety violations and fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration after an accident caused the death of a worker.
The accident occurred in December in Chipewa Falls. A construction crew was working when a 10-foot by 28-foot wall made of concrete collapsed on the men. One 36-year-old man died and others were seriously injured. After an investigation into the accident, the OSHA found that the companies that the men worked for were negligent in their use of safety equipment.
A fine of $130,000 was issued to Lewis Construction Inc., the concrete contractor, and a fine of $30,800 was issued to Cedar Falls Building Systems Inc., the general contractor. The companies have 15 days to contest the safety citations.
