Cargill Meat Solutions Corp., a meat processing company, is being sued by an Oregon family after their 10 month-old daughter was hospitalized after consuming Salmonella-contaminated turkey. The young girl spent a week in the hospital for a high fever and diarrhea. This is the first lawsuit to be filed against Cargill since it recalled nearly 36 million pounds of Salmonella-contaminated fresh and frozen turkey.
This strain of antibiotic-resistant Salmonella has been linked to over 100 illnesses in 30 states and one death in California. The family plans on suing Cargill for pain and suffering, medical costs,
emotional distress and the parents' lost wages.
