New Hampshire’s Exeter Hospital is facing a class-action lawsuit that was filed against it after 20 people, including a staff member, contracted hepatitis C. A criminal investigation have also been launched in response to the outbreak.
Public health officials began their own investigation last week and believe the disease was spread by hospital staff who used the same syringes on more than one patient. The affected individuals are accusing the hospital of negligence.
Hepatitis C is a virus that affects the liver and can lead to other chronic health conditions, according to the Boston Globe. There is currently no vaccine or cure for the disease.
