A Green Bay man was killed in a construction accident last Thursday when a crane carrying a 52-ton girder collapsed over the Butte des Morts bridge. The crane’s operator was seriously injured as well.
The accident occurred while executing a plan to expand the bridge from four lanes to eight lanes.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has sent investigators to the scene of the accident to search for signs of negligence or omissions of safety protocols that could have contributed to the tragic crane collapse.
This is the second deadly construction accident in the U.S. Highway 41 overhaul. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of Joseph R. Bidler and Raymond Ashenbrenner.
