Walmart to pay $190,000 due to hazardous workplace

Posted under Premises liability

The world’s biggest multinational employer, Walmart, was fined $190,000 in connection with health and safety hazards the company’s environment posed to its Rochester store employees in New York- just like those discovered in nine other Walmart branches throughout the U.S.

Walmart consented to the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) demands by willingly saying it would see to it that a safer working environment is provided in 3,000 of its stores that are located in 28 states across the U.S.

Occupational safety and health assistant secretary of labor Dr. David Michaels said that the agreement will provide for a safer and healthier work atmosphere for thousands of Walmart employees and expects other employers to make similar provisions for a healthy workplace.

Although Walmart has agreed to pay a hazard fine for its unsafe store conditions, these existing hazards could have caused serious harm to employees and customers.
